UPDATE ON CLUB MATTERS
25TH MAY 2012
Clubhouse Update. The railing sub-contractors will be coming shortly to make a template for the balustrade. After the template the copings will be fitted and pre-drilling will then take place. The balustrade should be completed in three weeks; it will then take a few days to install. Soffits for the balcony are currently being struck.
Turning to the scaffolding, this should be coming down in about two weeks. The canopy will then be installed across the front entrance, after which rendering will take place. Three of the four (original) supports have already been positioned.
Work on the downstairs bar is progressing well. Work on the bar top should be finished by the middle of next week. The stone flooring in the downstairs bar should take about three more days (less the areas around the doorways).
Once the scaffolding has been removed, two weeks hence, the bifold doors should then be installed. The provisional date, given by the builders for the opening of the downstairs bar, is 15th June.
The downstairs kitchen should be finished by the end of next week. Catercare will then begin installation work. Plaster-boarding around the top of the lift will also take place later this week. By the end of today a temporary way through will be finished, enabling the lift to be in operation from tonight - Friday 25th May.
The provisional opening date for the upstairs bar is 29th June. Assuming these dates are met then the major outstanding work will then be the levelling of the lawn area. It is hoped that the staff will move into their offices in the clubhouse in the week starting 11th June, but that is dependent on BT moving the exchange on 11th June.
Rear Commodore (House)
Tina Raymond has sadly resigned as Rear Commodore (House) and the Commodore has thanked her for all the hard work she put in during the past two years. In accordance with Rule 6.4 the General Committee will appoint her successor at next Monday’s General Committee Meeting.
Celebration Ball
This event will take place on 18th August. A full update will be provided. As mentioned in my 8th May update, tickets will be priced at £75 per person so please reserve the date. Full information will be sent out to all members shortly.
CLUBHOUSE BUILDING UPDATE AND
OTHER INFORMATION 8TH MAY 2012
During the past week the ceiling in the downstairs extension has been boarded and work is progressing nicely on the downstairs bar and kitchen. Upstairs, studwork has been positioned. All of the balcony has now been poured but needs the best part of two weeks to set. Moving downstairs again, three of the four staff offices have now been painted with just the front office lagging behind the others. However, the front office has now been skimmed so progress is being made there. Second fix electrical work has taken place in the other staff areas (WC, wine store, dry food store and rest area). Moving outside, the top central part of the central south facing section has been rendered.
This week will see the staff rest room fitted out (with washing machine and dryer) to facilitate Mary’s ironing of tablecloths etc. The appropriate flooring will be laid in the staff area, lighting will be installed in the cellar and taping and joining of the ceiling in the downstairs room will take place. In the downstairs extension, work will continue on installing the kitchen and bar. Upstairs, the upstand for the balcony should be poured on Friday (weather permitting); work will continue on the upstairs disabled WC, the ceiling by the lift in the old West Room is being boarded and skimmed and it is hoped that the last piece of brickwork can start.
Looking further ahead it is hoped that the scaffolding can be removed from around the building in two weeks, which will greatly improve the overall look of the building and signify that the end of the Phase I Rebuild really is in sight!
THE SUMMER BALL
The Celebration Ball, so named to mark the completion of the major part of the rebuild is scheduled for 18th August and will take place on the first floor of the Clubhouse. Details have yet to be finalised but it is likely that tickets will cost in the region of £75 per head. More details will be forthcoming in due course but please make a note of the date now.
