DESCRIPTION:A talk by Kevin Shaw entitled Robert Hooke – ‘England’s Leonardo’: The Mystery of a Forgotten Mastermind  \nWhile everyone\, rightly\, appreciates the genius of Isaac Newton\, this talk looks at the extraordinary\, but largely overlooked\, contribution made by Robert Hooke to the far-ranging inventions and discoveries of the 17th century – including those of Newton himself\, who denigrated Hook\, refusing to acknowledge him as a source of inspiration. Yet it was Hooke who for over forty years\, more than anyone\, established the enduring reputation of the early Royal  Society; Hooke who\, as the creator of machines\, made ‘Boyle’s Law’ provable; Hooke who through his microscopic studies coined the biological ‘cell’; Hooke who as a skilled architect and structural engineer was Wren’s key right-hand man in the rebuilding of London and St. Paul’s after the Great Fire. SUMMARY:RSYC Clay Pigeon Shoot & Lunch
DESCRIPTION:Our Spring event of 2026 will take place at Top Targets\, Tapnell Farm at 10am on Saturday March 28th. Hopefully as many of you as possible will take part in what is a very enjoyable morning’s shoot. \nDirections for those who are not familiar: From Freshwater\, follow the B3399 (Middle Road) from Afton towards Calbourne. Approximately 1 ½ miles along the B3399\, you will find Tapnell Farm on the left. It is well signposted and also has signs for Top Targets. As you enter the Tapnell Farm drive\, there is a turning to the right at the top of the slope\, signposted to Top Targets\, and parking is at the end of this unmade road. For SatNavs\, postcode is PO41 0YJ. \nGuns must hold a Shotgun License and bring it with them on the day\, or signify on the sign-up list if they have no license. Due to noise restrictions\, subsonic cartridges must be used\, and for 12 and 20 bore guns\, these are included in the cost of the shoot. There are no such restrictions for people shooting 410 guns so you should bring your own cartridges if you plan to shoot with a 410. \nWe plan to shoot 10 stands of 10 clays per stand and will return to the Clubhouse in time for lunch around 1330. DESCRIPTION:The RSYC Scottish Country Dancing Group meets weekly from 19:00 to 21:00 on Wednesday evenings during the winter (October to mid April)\, with a few additional parties and ceilidhs scattered over the year. \nNew members.  New members are most welcome.  Previous experience is not required.
