Covid-19: Getting back on the water

The Club is delighted to announce that following Government guidance it is running a racing programme on Wednesday evenings (Cruisers, Folkboats, XODs and YODs, and Lasers), Saturday afternoons (XODs) and Sunday mornings (Cruisers, Folkboats, XODs and YODs, and Lasers).

The racing programme is being very enthusiastically supported by members with strong competitive racing and good numbers taking part.

Racing is for boats crewed entirely from one household or, in the case of keelboats, with persons from more than one household observing 1m+ distancing with additional measures.

The Club is working with and applying the latest Royal Yachting Association Guidance:

Each crew member should carry out their own personal assessment of the risk of transmission. The only way to avoid all risk of transmission is to not take part at all, especially pertinent if you are a high-risk individual. However, if you do want to sail the Club has produced these protocols to reduce the risk of transmission.

Competitors must:

  • Not attend if they have any Covid-19 symptoms or have been in a high Covid-19 risk environment in the last 14 days.
  • Complete a Condition of Entry form available online or from the Sailing Office.
  • Ensure that the forecast conditions are well within their sailing capabilities.
  • Comply with distancing of 2M, and if that is not possible 1M+ from other competitors onshore.
  • Note the revised Sailing Instructions.
  • Adhere to RSYC Risk Assessment - Water Based Activity

Specific conditions for racing for XODs

  • There should be no restriction on sailing three up provided all three are from the same household.
  • Sailing three up with people from two or three different households should be avoided.
  • There should be no restriction on sailing two up with participants from two different households provided all are mindful of the guidance on social distancing and aim to keep apart as much as possible.
  • No more than two persons may sit out.
  • The usual requirement to keep measurement and weight certificates up to date is suspended for the remainder of the season.
  • Complaints about non-compliance with any of the above should be referred to the Divisional Class Captain to be dealt with informally. They must not be referred to a Protest Committee.

Specific conditions for racing for Folkboats

  • All racing is white sailing
  • Engines may be kept on the stern while racing
  • Sailing with member of a different household is acceptable but the 1M+ rule should be observed.

Jetty and Slipway and Club RIBs

The jetty, rigging and launching areas at the club are operating at a fraction of their full capacity, allowing plenty of space. The Club will monitor attendance to see that this remains the case. Users must: -

  • Follow the signs and circulation arrows.
  • Take particular care to observe social distancing between groups at all times.
  • Avoid congregating in groups
  • Use the hand washing facilities provided by the Club.
  • No more than two sailors from different households in the Club rib in addition to the driver. Face coverings and gloves must be worn.

Loos and Changing Rooms

  • At this stage the disabled loos on the ground and first floors are available to use on a one in one out basis.
  • The main cloakrooms and showers remain out of use.
