The Royal Solent Yacht Club has run this private lottery for Members, in accordance with the Gambling Act 2005, for many years. By taking part, Members enjoy the fun of a lottery whilst helping to encourage boating activities as most of the proceeds go to the Millennium Fund for young sailors.

Rules
- The object of the Lottery is to raise funds for the Royal Solent Yacht Club (RSYC) and it shall be called the “Solent Lottery”.
- Membership shall be restricted to Members of the RSYC over the age of 16.
- Membership subscriptions shall be £13.00 per annum payable in advance by standing order.
- Members may make multiple membership subscriptions and each annual subscription of £13.00 shall entitle the subscriber to one ticket in the draw.
- The draw for prizes shall be made following the Annual General Meeting of the RSYC.
- The distribution of prize money shall be agreed by the Honorary Treasurer and the Lottery Promoter. It shall be limited in any year to a maximum of one half of the amount subscribed and a minimum of 40% of the amount subscribed. The balance of the subscriptions shall be paid to the RSYC.
- The Promoter of the Lottery shall be appointed by the General Committee on the recommendation of the Honorary Treasurer. Any matter requiring adjudication shall be referred to the Vice Commodore’s Committee and their decision shall be final.
- These rules may be amended or revoked by the General Committee at their absolute discretion.
Prizes
These differ each year according to the total income; there are currently on average three prizes ranging from £25.00 to £100.00.
Profits
The General Committee have resolved that these shall be transferred to the Millennium Fund which was established in May 1998 as a charitable fund to support sailing and boating through grants or loans to individuals, groups and organisations, not necessarily restricted to Club Members. Funding is from the Solent Lottery and donations. The allocation of grants or loans will be approved in advance by the General Committee.
