This year, celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Contessa, the Royal Solent Yacht Club (RSYC) Contessa Regatta is a dedicated and spirited annual event that brings together the passionate community of Contessa yacht owners and crews. Hosted by the RSYC in the charming port of Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight, this regatta is a firm favourite in the sailing calendar, celebrating the enduring legacy and exceptional sailing qualities of these classic yachts.
Established as a tribute to the life and work of Jeremy Rogers, the visionary builder behind the iconic Contessa yachts, the regatta has quickly become a significant gathering of Contessas of all sizes.
The regatta features a vibrant mix of competitive racing in the Western Solent and a famously convivial shore-side social programme. The event is exclusive to Contessa yachts, with racing organized for all classes. For some, the regatta holds extra prestige by incorporating their National Championships and / or serves as a key event in their inshore points series. Larger Contessa models, such as the 35, 38, and 39, also compete together under a handicap system.
While the racing is taken seriously, with a full schedule of races over the weekend, the RSYC Contessa Regatta is equally renowned for its fun and inclusive atmosphere.
The social events are a cornerstone of the regatta’s appeal. The weekend begins with welcome a drinks reception sponsored by Maison Louis Jadot. After racing on Saturday, there is a lively rum punch party hosted by the original builders, Jeremy Rogers Ltd., followed by supper and live music at the yacht club.
The RSYC Contessa Regatta is more than just a series of races; it is a heartfelt celebration of a beloved class of yacht, its creator, and the community of sailors who cherish them.
