Waiting Staff

This is an exciting opportunity to join the slick hospitality team at the Royal Solent Yacht Club in Yarmouth, Isle of Wight - renowned for the Taittinger RSYC Regatta!

We are recruiting for full time Waiting Staff and also part time Waiting Staff for evenings and weekends only.

Experience is an advantage, but not essential as full training will be provided by our experienced Service Manager.

The Royal Solent Yacht Club is located in Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight and has over 1,000 members.  It has an active racing, cruising and social programme and hosts a number of outside events, which range from national level class regattas to visits from other clubs and associations.

If you possess some of the following qualifications and experience, then this could be the ideal role for you:

- RYA Powerboat Level 2

- VHF licence

- Basic First Aid

- Boat handling experience

- Basic knowledge of sailing & sailing racing rules

- Flexibility with working times (evening & weekend work required)

- Good time keeping skills

- Using own initiative

- Good people & communication skills

- High level of tidiness

- And above all being a team player

This is a position of responsibility, all the boatmen are responsible for the safety and wellness of all persons afloat, competitors, race officials and other boatmen, at all times.

You will be expected to help to maintain a high level of security around the Club site helping to lock up and ensuring the boatmen’s workshop is properly locked and all tools put away at the end of the day. An attentiveness to detail will definitely come in handy. You will be expected to take pride in your work, striving to deliver your best at all times.

All staff represent the Club and therefore are expected to act and dress accordingly; good manners and a positive outlook are expected. It is particularly important to be able to communicate appropriately and effectively with members and visitors.

You will be working alongside our experienced Head Boatman, Thomas, to carry out the following tasks, mainly on the water from April – September and ashore from October - March:

- Provisioning support boats for racing

- Maintenance of club boats and racing equipment

- Mark laying

- Property maintenance

- Grounds maintenance

- Ensuring the Club and its assets are maintained to a high level of quality.

As part of the boatmen team  you will help implementing change and improvements. You work closely alongside all the other teams at the Club, helping to implement their ideas and assisting in ensuring that events surpass expectations.

As the RSYC staff operate as a small tight knit team, you may also be called on to help wherever help is needed, this varies in roles, helping set up and put away the dining rooms, helping the kitchen if it is backing up, jumping in to help. You may be called on by other members of the team to assist in their tasks of checking and ensuring the club is operating efficiently. An ability to get stuck in with the team and a passion for seeing those around you succeed, is encouraged and important.

The role is full time year-round, with an average of 37.5 hours a week, your working week will be Sunday to Thursday, with Friday and Saturday your typical days off.

During the summer sailing season (June – August) days off will change with necessity, but you will always get your days off back promptly.

Please note that a DBS check, to be carried out by the Club, is part of the recruitment process for this position.
