Solent Platinum Jubilee Celebration Fleet Review, Cowes

Saturday 6 August 2022

After a year of planning, next Saturday 6th August, members from the Royal Yacht Squadron and all Solent yacht clubs are invited to gather off Cowes to participate in a once in a generation event afloat to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

There will be no Cowes Week racing on the Saturday as all race boats are invited to remain at their moorings and dress overall. Passage racing home is then planned for the early afternoon.

Late morning HRH Princess Royal, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, selected VIPs and Commodores will review the moored fleets from on board five Wet Wheels boats. The Royal party will then board HMS Severn to review what promises to be a large and spectacular Motor Past of vessels.

If you wish to sign up to the Motor Past, please click here. If you wish to view the Skipper's Briefing please click here.

Adam, our Boatman, is happy to take Marksman to join in with the Motor Past, view the festivities and fly the RSYC burgee. Marksman can take six people, please get in touch at sailing@royalsolent.org if you would like to join in, first come first served!

Viewing everything from the shore should also be spectacular, especially with a Silver Spitfire Air Display at 14:00.

Rear Commodore House Miles Peckham has been working with Founder and Trustee of Wet Wheels Geoff Holt MBD DL, to arrange an afternoon and evening of entertainment at Cowes Yacht Haven, so the whole day promises to be a lot of fun for everyone. For more information, please email the Sailing Office: sailing@royalsolent.org.

The whole day is a fund raiser for the charity Wet Wheels which provides more than 3,000 people with sea-going adventures each year, particularly those with profound and complex disabilities - many of whom have never been to sea before.  If you can’t attend but would like to donate to this excellent charity, please click here.

Best wishes,

Martyn Collinson
Commodore
