Our Response to Covid

We are very pleased to say that the Club will be re-opening its outside spaces from Monday 12th April 2021, in line with step 2 of the Government's roadmap out of lockdown. Please find below details of the procedures we have put in place for a safe re-opening for members, visitors and staff.

The key message is HANDS, FACE, SPACE & FRESH AIR.

There is guidance and legislation in place which the Club must continue to follow to remain open safely and legally. These procedures are in place to enable this.

Though we are more practised, easing out of lockdown will not be easy for any of us and some may feel that the procedures we are required to have in place are onerous and over cautious, but we would ask you to think about the more vulnerable in our community and respect these rules.

Please do not come to the Club at all if you or anyone in your household or support bubble, or anyone you have knowingly been in contact with, has any of the symptoms of Covid or has tested positive for Covid within the last 10 days.

Only the Club's outdoor spaces are allowed to be open to members and visitors from Monday 12th April, this will include the lawn, colonnade, main balcony and members' balcony.

Entry to these outside areas will be via the Dinghy Park entrance where you will be booked in and guided to your aollocated table..

Entry to the first floor balconies will only be via the outside stairs as the lift will not be in use.

The Club's ground floor cloakrooms will be accessible on a limited capacity basis of 3 persons at any one time, though the showers will remain closed. Access to the ground floor cloakrooms will be via the doors from the Colonnade (adjacent to the Sailing Office).

On the lawn, a marquee will provide cover for a number of tables, we are required to keep the marquee well ventilated so some of the sides will be removed. On the balconies, a number of gazebos will also provide cover, again we are required to keep some of the sides open.

The designated smoking areas will not be in operation while service is restricted to outside spaces.

Face coverings are required to be worn at all times, except whilst seated at your allocated table and except by those with a valid age, health or disability reason for not wearing a face covering.

From 12th April 2021, it is permitted to socialise outdoors on tables of up to 6 people, each of whom can be from different households, or in groups of more than 6 in relation to 2 households. In all cases those in a group booking from different households should ensure they socially distance as much as possible and do not mingle with those outside of their booking. When allocating tables we will endeavour to support social distancing. Members and visitors must be seated at a table whether eating or just drinking.

Due to our reduced capacity outside, advanced booking is essential to avoid disappointment. Booking will also help us to ensure that we know who has been to the Club for track and trace purposes should it be necessary; we are required to keep this information for three weeks. Members should ideally pay using their Club Payment Card account, particularly as this will allow redemption of the member discount, so account balances may be need to be topped up when you book.

The booking line (01983 760256) is open from 9am - 5pm Monday to Thursday, 10am - 5pm Friday and 9am - 12pm Saturdays. Alternatively, outside of office hours, try the Bar on 760239 or email your booking requirement to and we will call you back during office hours to confirm availability. When you book you will be asked which area you would like to sit in and you will be allocated a table, subject to availability.

When booking you will be asked the names of the members (and contact numbers of any guests) in your party. Please have this information ready when you book.

You will be allocated an arrival time as close as possible to your desired time on a first come first served basis. Please do your best to arrive at the Club at the allotted time as this will avoid congestion and the possibility of having to queue in the car park before being shown to your table.

There will be no drinks service at the bar as members and visitors must remain seated outside the Club, except to use the cloakrooms. Orders for food and drink will be taken at your table and delivered to your table by waiting staff wearing face coverings. Table buzzers will be fitted to a number of the Club's outside tables which can be used to page the waiting staff if you are awaiting service.

Payment should be made at your table, ideally via the Club Payment Card or debit/credit card.

We are required by law to produce a full operating procedure and risk assessment for staff and members alike. Links to these are listed below:

The Royal Solent Yacht Club has taken full account of Government guidance when planning for the re-opening of the Clubhouse and will always do what it can to ensure your safety and the safety of the Club’s staff. However, given the nature of the virus, there are risks that are outside the control of the Club and you must make your own decision about whether you wish to visit.
